This FAQ outlines the changes to VICTORIA’s Home Warranty Scheme 2026


The legislation has been passed, with the new scheme expected to commence on a date to be confirmed, and no later than 1 July 2026.


 Currently, homeowners can generally only claim insurance if a builder dies, disappears or becomes insolvent.

 

Under the new scheme, claims may arise where work is:

  • Incomplete
  • Defective
  • Non-compliant
